rufftoon:

My top 4 sad and dark animated films (because animation can be sad and dark too!).

In no particular order:

1) Plague Dogs: Definitely not for kids. A dark tale about animal experiments. The book has a more upbeat ending.

2) When The Wind Blows: an old British couple think they can breeze through a nuclear war as easily as the bombings from WW2. Do not watch if you’re depressive.

3) Grave of the Fireflies: two orphans try to survive after the end of the war in Japan. So sad and beautiful at the same time. *snif*

4) Watership Down: A group of rabbits must find a new place to live after the destruction of their warren. As a kid, I didn’t know little bunnies could fight like that! We’re talking blood! Plus that bunny of death gave me nightmares.

They don’t make them like that anymore.
